The project

How this Snohomish primary bathroom came together

The goal

The homeowner came to us for a primary bathroom remodel. The room had a large tiled corner tub under the window, a framed glass shower beside it, an oak double vanity and beige floor tile, and the new design replaced every one of those pieces.

The challenge

The old corner tub and its tiled deck took up a large part of the room, and the framed shower was boxed in beside it. Both had to come out, and the new tub, shower and vanity had to share the same window wall and door openings without crowding each other.

The solution

We removed the corner tub, its deck and the framed shower. In their place a freestanding tub now sits centered under the window, with dark tile wainscot behind it. Next to it we built a walk-in shower lined in blue glass subway tile, with two recessed niches, a rain head, a handheld shower on a slide bar and a gray hexagon floor, all closed in with frameless glass. Across the room a long teal shaker double vanity with a white counter and two framed mirrors replaced the oak cabinets, and a light wood-look tile floor runs throughout.

The result

The finished photos were taken on June 23, 2023. Where the corner tub used to sit there is now open floor around a freestanding tub, the shower is clear glass instead of a framed box, and the teal vanity gives the room its color.

Questions

Questions about this project

Can a built-in corner tub be replaced with a freestanding tub?

Yes. In this Snohomish bathroom the tiled corner tub and its deck were removed and a freestanding tub now sits under the same window. Taking out the deck also freed floor space around the tub, and the shower next to it was rebuilt at the same time.

Why glass subway tile in the shower?

Glass tile reflects light, so a shower lined in it looks bright even in an inside corner. In this bathroom the blue glass subway tile runs floor to ceiling inside frameless glass and picks up the color of the teal vanity across the room.

How much did this project cost?
