About Us
I Built This Company
So You'd Never Have to Wonder Who's In Your Home.
My name is Bar Unger. I’m the founder of Volcano Builders, and I’ve been in construction my entire life. I started this company with one promise: that every person who lets us into their home deserves honesty, quality, and someone who actually answers the phone.
FOUNDER STORY
Built From the Ground Up. Literally.
PART 1: THE BEGINNING
Before I knew what a business plan was, I knew how to pour concrete.
Growing up in Tel Aviv, Israel, my father was a skilled, precise, and completely dedicated construction man. Every summer, instead of playing, I was at his side on job sites, learning what it meant to build something with your hands that would stand for decades. I didn’t think of it as training. It was just life. But looking back, those years laid it all out.
PART 2: MILITARY SERVICE
When I turned 18, I served three years in the Israeli military — manning border checkpoints, responsible for the safety and order of everything that passed through. The military doesn’t teach you shortcuts. It teaches you that the right way and the easy way are almost never the same thing, and that when you’re responsible for something, you’re responsible. That lesson never left me.
PART 3: THE DEGREE
After the military, I went back to school. At 23, I enrolled at Shenkar College in Israel to study civil engineering and construction management. I graduated at 26 with a degree that formalized everything I had spent my childhood learning on job sites with my father, structural thinking, material science, project planning, the mathematics behind why buildings stand and why, when they’re done wrong, they don’t.
Many contractors build from experience. I build from experience and from an engineering foundation. That combination is rare, and it’s why I catch things others miss.
PART 4: THE MOVE TO AMERICA
The same year I graduated, I made one of the hardest decisions of my life: I moved to America.
I didn’t speak English fluently. I didn’t have a local network. I had a degree, a decade of hands-on experience, and enough courage to figure the rest out. I landed in Los Angeles, found work in construction, and spent two years learning not just new techniques and building codes, but a new culture, a new language, a new way of earning trust from scratch.
Most people would have gone home. I doubled down.
PART 5: WASHINGTON AND THE COMPANY
I eventually moved to Washington and co-founded a construction company. A year later, after proving what I was capable of, I made another leap. I sold my shares and built something entirely my own.
Before I chose the name, I called my mom.
She’s an orthodox Jewish woman, deeply rooted in faith and tradition. She believed, as she always has, that names carry meaning, that the words we attach to things shape what they become. So she opened the Zohar.
The Zohar is the foundational text of Kabbalah, the most mystical branch of Jewish wisdom. It describes creation, fire, and the universe’s hidden architecture. My mom was reading a passage about the nature of divine fire, white fire written on black fire, describing how the letters of the Torah were not simply written but alive, rising and floating upward through the air, erupting into the sky like pillars of light.
She read it to me. And the word came.
Volcano.
Not because it was written anywhere. Because what she described was something ancient and powerful, building from deep within and then rising, unstoppable, into the sky, that was the feeling I had about what I was about to build. Seattle sits in the shadow of great volcanoes. The land here knows what it means to hold enormous force quietly, and then produce something that reshapes everything around it.
That’s how I build. That’s who I am. And that’s the promise behind the name on every truck, every permit, every finished project.
Volcano Builders was founded in 2021. And I’ve been building it the same way I’ve built everything else in my life, with everything I have.
Why Seattle Homeowners Choose Volcano Builders
I don't chase money. I chase the right outcome.
There's a saying I believe deeply: whoever chases money will spend their whole life chasing money. I've walked away from shortcuts that would have saved us thousands. I've put materials into a project that weren't in the original scope because they were the right thing to do. The job isn't finished when it's technically done — it's finished when it's done right. Every time.
You will always know what's happening in your home.
One of the reasons homeowners dread remodeling is that when you hire a contractor, you wait and wonder. That doesn't happen here. My team gives regular updates. Project milestones are communicated before they happen, not after. And if something unexpected comes up, because in construction, sometimes things do happen that you hear it from me directly, not from a subcontractor six days later.
Military-grade accountability. Zero excuses.
I served at border checkpoints where every decision mattered and every detail counted. That standard didn't leave me when I took off the uniform. When we commit to a timeline, we work backward from that date, and we protect it. When we commit to a budget, we treat that number like it's sacred. The only surprises you should get from Volcano Builders are how good the finished project looks.
Your home is treated like it's ours.
There is something deeply personal about letting strangers into your home. I don't take that lightly. Every person on my team knows that we are guests in someone's most important space. We show up on time, we clean up after ourselves, and we treat your property with the same care we'd bring to our own family's home. Because that's the standard, not a policy, not a talking point. That's just how we work.
The People Who Will Be In Your Home
Every person on this team was chosen deliberately. Not just for their skills but for their character. Because when you hire Volcano Builders, you’re not hiring a faceless company. You’re hiring these people.
Bar Unger
Founder & CEO
Bar built Volcano Builders from scratch after more than a decade working in construction across two countries. He's involved in every major project and holds the team to the standard he was raised on by his father. You can reach him directly.
Santiago
Dispatch & Client Coordination
Santiago is usually the first voice you'll hear at Volcano Builders, and that's by design. He manages every incoming inquiry, books your initial consultation, and makes sure the right people are in the right place at the right time. When a project is moving, Santiago is the engine keeping it on schedule.
Nahin
Lead Field Supervisor
Nahin runs the work on the ground. With years of hands-on construction experience, he oversees our crews on site and holds the workmanship to the standard Bar set when he founded this company. When Nahin signs off on something, it's done right.
Pulkit
Marketing & Creative
Pulkit makes sure the work we're most proud of gets seen by the people who need to see it. He runs the creative side of Volcano Builders from how we show up online to how we tell the stories of the projects we've completed.
Fernanda
Production Manager
Fernanda is the backbone of how our projects run. She works directly with project managers to make sure every phase is executed with the detail it deserves, tracking progress, coordinating resources, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks between the office and the field.
Where We're Going
"Seattle homeowners deserve a contractor who shows up, tells the truth, and builds things that last. That's not a high bar. It should be the minimum. At Volcano Builders, we're making it the standard one project at a time."
We started with one project manager and a phone. Today, we have a team, a track record, and clients who refer us to their neighbors. In five years, Volcano Builders will be the most trusted name in residential remodeling across the Greater Seattle area, not because we’re the biggest, but because every single client will tell you we’re the most honest. That’s the company I’m building. That’s the company I’m proud of.
