Brown to Blue Exterior House Painting in Marysville, WA

This Marysville house went from faded brown to a clean blue with white trim in the summer of 2024. Our crew repainted the siding on every side of the two-story home, the trim, fascia and the garage door. Before the color went on, the walls were washed and the worn spots on the trim, including fascia where the old paint had lifted away from the wood, were dealt with.

The project

How this Marysville repaint came together

The goal

The job was a full color change for the outside of the house, not a touch up. Brown siding with cream trim was to become blue siding with white trim on every wall, from the front entry to the patio cover at the back.

The challenge

Some of the trim was in rough shape. On one side wall the paint on the fascia had peeled right off and left bare wood showing along the eave. The house is two stories with a tall garage end, so a lot of the work happened from ladders, and the patio cover at the back meant painting around and under its beams.

The solution

We started with prep, not paint. Ladders went up on the back wall and washing gear was set up along the side of the house before any color went on. The walls were washed down and the peeling fascia and trim were dealt with so the new coat had sound wood to stick to. Then the siding was painted blue on every side, the trim, fascia and corner boards went white, and the garage door was painted to match the walls so the garage end reads as one piece.

The result

The house now looks like one finished design from the street to the back lawn. Blue siding, white trim and a matching garage door replaced the old brown, and the trim along the eaves is sealed and clean again.

Questions

Questions about this project

Why does prep matter so much on an exterior repaint?

Paint only holds as well as the surface under it. On this house the fascia had bare wood where the old paint had peeled away, so the walls were washed and the trim was dealt with before the blue and white went on. Skipping that step is how a new coat starts peeling in the same places.

Can you paint a garage door to match the siding?

Yes. Here the garage door was painted the same blue as the walls, which makes the tall garage end of the house look like part of the same design instead of a separate block.

How much did this project cost?

About $15,000. Every project is priced in writing, line by line, for your home.

How do I get a price for an exterior paint job like this one?

Book a consultation. We walk the outside of the house, look at the siding and trim up close and send a written, itemized price before work starts. For what moves the price, read Remodeling Pricing Guide for the Greater Seattle Area.
