8 Must-Have All Season Tools

When you are a homeowner and even a renter, it is important to fix minor things that break around the house. Having your own set of tools make sure you can get the item repaired quickly.

That way you do not have to wait for the landlord or a handyman to find some free time in their schedules to come and do the job for you.

What follows is a list of must-have tools for your home so you can be like a Boy Scout and always be prepared to handle most minor fixes.

These are tools that you will need no matter what time of year it is. They can be used inside or out and will be ready to use come rain or shine.

1. Tape Measure

Rulers are okay, but tape measures make sure you get an accurate reading. They are longer than rulers and can get into tight spaces easier. Plus, they are easier to read.

2. Screwdriver Set

There is no need to wait for a landlord or handyman when all you need is a screwdriver to tighten a screw. Make sure to have a complete set of Flatheads, Phillip heads, and Robertsons to cover all screws that may come loose.

3. Hammer

You will want a claw hammer to make removing any loose nails very easy. Plus you will want one between 16 and 32 ounces in weight to make sure it is strong enough to hammer all sizes of nails.

4. Pliers

A set of these will come in handy from time to time. They add leverage and make sure you have a tight grip on the item you need to remove, bend or twist. The ones to have are needle nose, groove lock, vise-grip, and so on.

5. Flashlight

This is not just for when the lights go out. Screws have a habit of disappearing into the darkest spots in your home. A flashlight makes those lost screws easier to find.

6. Socket set

Does not have to be an elaborate set. The sockets need to be able to fit over standard nuts and bolts. They also cannot be cheaply made. You will want a sturdy set from a good brand to have them last a long time.

7. Wrenches

Can’t go through life without a set of adjustable or crescent wrenches. These can fit into spots here sockets can’t reach and they don’t break if you buy the right brand.

8. Handsaw

Here you may need several different kinds depending on what needs to be cut. You will need a rip saw, keyhole saw, and other saws to make sure you are covered for household fixes as well as pruning the garden.
